By 2014, Mike Baur had grown weary of the banking industry and had lost his passion for it. He decided he could find a more rewarding career helping fellow entrepreneurs get their startups off the ground. After a few attempts, he co-founded the Swiss Startup Factory in Zurich. The main feature of the Swiss Startup Factory is a 3-month accelerator program where entrepreneurs are given business services such as a collaborative office space, coaching, mentoring, and financing. Other services include things like compiling financial statements, bookkeeping, and payroll management. They are also able to access the large network of investors and entrepreneurs that Mike Baur has developed and additionally are coached in how to pitch their idea to venture capitalists.
The types of business that the Swiss Startup Factory is looking for are entrepreneurs who have ideas that will disrupt industries and introduce products and services that unseat the status quo. One of their recently launched startups was Struckd which allows users to create and share car race apps on their phones. Another startup is Beaconsmind which allows retailers to keep track of their customer’s locations in their stores and use that information to market and sell better.
Mike Baur serves the Swiss Startup Factory as its Executive Chairman. He enjoys sharing his passion for work with others, especially the entrepreneurs he is helping develop their businesses. He has said that society is currently bridging between the old economy and a new one and he enjoys being a part of that transformation. He is also a sought out speaker that has appeared at university events as well as corporate conferences and conventions.
Outside of his work, Mike Baur favorite activity is to follow sports. He is passionate about his the Fribourg Gotteron, his hometown hockey team. He also loves to follow the Swiss tennis professionals that play on the ATP tour.
